Specialty:Structural geology, applied minerology and microstructure.

Graduate in Engineering Science (1995) and Geologist from Universidad de Chile (1997). In 2002 she got her PhD. at this same university. She pursued a Postdoctorate in laboratories of Chile’s National Geology and Mining Service. Dr. Arancibia has performed tasks as a consultant in the field of mineral deposits and Geothermics.

She works as an Associate Professor at Geotechnical and Structural Engineering Department of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile since 2010, and today, she is the Head of the Major Program in Geosciences.

Gloria Arancibia does research on Structural Geology, Mineralogy and Microstructure. She specially studies the development and propagation of rocks fractures (geological faults).

Interest Areas

  • Geological faults, fractures and fluids movement. Microstructure and Mineralogy of rocks and materials, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-Ray Microtomography (microCT).
