Specialty: Sinthesis, Characterization and Study of Applications and Properties of Nanomaterials.
He received his Doctor’s degree from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Chile (2009).He earned a postdoctoral fellowship at University of California in San Diego, United States (2010).
He is currently working as an Associate Professor at Institute of Physics – Pontifica Universidad Católica de Chile.
His investigations are focused on the identification of varied usages of nanomaterials in different technological applications. In his laboratory and together with his group of students he manufactures nanopores, nanotubes, nanopoints, nanopillars and nanothreads from different elements.
For instance, they have manufactured aluminum oxide nanopores, carbon nanotubes, gold nanopoints or nickel nanothreads which are used in various spectroscopy and microscopy techniques to characterize them and study the behaviour of their catalytic, magnetic or electricity transmission properties. They also study the way they can be used in efficient photocatalysists for the production of hydrogen through water splitting by using sunlight and their use in chemical and biological sensors is explored.
