Specialty: Physics, diagnoses and applications of transient dense plasmas.
He graduated in Physics in 2001 and got his Docto’r Degree in 2008 at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He then worked as Researcher in the Chilean Commission of Nuclear Energy until 2012. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Physics of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Academic Director of the Ciencia2030-UC project.
Interest Areas
- His research focuses on plasma physics under extreme conditions and its applications. He works in high-energy-density physics (HEDP), with particular emphasis on Z-pinch experiments using the group’s pulsed-power generators (Llampudken and Gepopu) and laser-produced plasmas, exploring plasma formation, emission, and shock processes relevant to laboratory astrophysics, nuclear fusion, and related fields. These studies aim to reproduce and understand phenomena that occur in extreme pressure and temperature environments, using advanced plasma diagnostics in controlled laboratory experiments.
- In parallel, he conducts research on non-thermal plasmas, exploring their interactions with liquids and their various applications. This line of work combines experimental physics with an interdisciplinary approach, opening opportunities to transfer knowledge from plasma physics to shared challenges across different disciplines and industries.
